Hello from Belfast,

Newbie here, but was wondering if anyone knows where to get a service manual for a Strathearn SMA2 turntable made here in Belfast. I have tried to register for Vinyl Engine and HiFi Engine but they are not accepting new registrations - lost as to where to go.

Many thanks

Rich

Rumour has it that such a thing does exist, but I have never successfully seen or laid my hands on one.

Hi,
VE only has a brochure to download from what I can see, unfortunately.

Stock image ...mine has an all black table. But it's essentially the same.

In Denmark. But before getting too interested you should probably read this https://zstereo.co.uk/2013/11/07/strathearn-sma2/
It explains why I haven’t picked it up, and is very entertaining. Though maybe not for a someone who lives in Belfast ;)
Do read the comments, there is a bit of love for these machines.
The SMA2 would be my choice of the two.

Thanks Jen - I think with me it's about prolonging the life of things. I've read differing reports on its quality and seen a video of one in action and it seemed pretty good. I'm a diy electronics tinkerer and sometimes it's about the journey and knowledge gained with the hope of success.

Pity about that because I might have pestered you about its setup and the electronics side of it ...lol.

Richard
TO be fair, it worked fine although you had to alter the pitch control every time you changed from 33 to 45rpm. I opened it up, thinking this can be adjusted and it probably can but there are a hell of a lot of trimpots inside it and none were labelled with their functions.

Realising that I could potentially do much more harm than good without a circuit diagram, i left it well alone!

Hi Richard,
I understand you perfectly, as that is also my perspective on things. However I already have a goodly supply of turntables, speakers, amplifiers and receivers waiting for their turn on the workbench, so I try to talk myself out of buying more projects. (With limited success ;))
Greetings Jens
