Stromberg-Carlson with Pilot

Hello,
I am brand new to this area of audio and have always had a fondness for console systems. I recently acquired a Stromberg-Carlson console with a Pilot tuner. Does anyone have experience with this system? It looks pretty dusty, and the volume knob makes a lot of static, what is my first step? It plays FM stations and the turntable sounds great, so I would like to repair it and have a nice sounding vintage console.
Any help is appreciated, attached are some pictures. In case they don't come through, it is a Stromberg-Carlson RP-781M with a Pilot 280 tuner.
thanks,

Interesting. Looks like the Pilot tuner was installed later. The wood around it is a bit differently colored than the rest of the unit. Amp looks like an S-C ASR-120.

Both companies made good gear. I'd be quite cool with that setup.

Thanks for the info! I grabbed the schematic off your site, very useful. I have not done any work on electronics, can I use the system since it sounds fine playing vinyl, or should I start taking things apart?!?!
