Stuipd question of the day

I just refoamed two smaller advent speakers. Before I took the woofers off, I forgot to mark the positive and negative connecter on the woofer. Now I couldn't install them back.

I once reformed my infinity woofers. The positive connecter on the woofer is bigger than the negative one.

But the connectors on the advent woofer have the same size.

I know this is a silly question. Please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Connect a 1.5V battery to the woofer. When you have the battery + on the woofer +, the woofer will move out. When you have the battery + on the woofer -, it will move in. Unfortunately, that doesn't guarantee which way they are supposed to be connected, so you may have to try it both ways and use your ears.

I guess the red cross on one side of the woofer is for positive connector. It is just weird, one is on left, the other is on right. But the red cross is really a x shape instead of a cross. At first, I thought it is a check mark for quality control.

To save face just ship the Advents to me and I'll diagnose the issue; that way you won't have to live with the embarassment of hooking up the woofers incorrectly! Welcome to AK Fishing!!!

Yep, the 1.5 v battery tactic works great. I have a pair of EPI 150 speakers and the polarity was not maked on the speakers either. I found it odd that they were hooked up in opposite ways, but sure enough when I tested them with the battery, the + side was on the left side on one tweeter and on the right side on the other.......from now on I will always test polarity to confirm the makings.

So not a stupid question at all, just a great addition to your speaker rebuilding repertoire.

Without one in front of me, but most of the time the neg lead is easy to test for. It will be the only one with continuity from the connections on the back of speaker to the tweeter. The positive lead will not. From there you can test the driver leads polarity. The negative supply will be common on both.
