So i just rebuilt the FM section of my 2230B and after putting it all back together with the am module on top, I noticed the left channel was just about dead on fm only. Now i had not removed the fm board completely but now i took it completely out. Checked all the Caps, resoldered a few messy joints and gave it a close look. I also added a sleeve of clear heat shrink over the oem wire that dies when you hit it with heat. Then i just jumped in the board using ball clips and clips. As it turns out i swapped apair of wires when i soldered everything back in the first time. I found this because i wrote down how i had soldered it all then i went from a picture from before i touched it when i put all the clips on it. Now it works great :/. I still have to solder everything back into place. I'm using blue tape to keep from shorting out a wire or two

Been there. Done that. :confused:

My old brain is running on old PC100 memory and not much at that. When I remove boards completely I always make hand drawn diagrams of every pin and wire color including the stripe. I also take a picture. Sounds stupid but the manual does not always list wire colors. Unless you want to waste time tracing every wire back to its start to determine where it goes, take notes.
 
I know better.. I was just being lazy since I had a picture .. several actually. This was a bit interesting because to get the FM board out, you have to take out the AM board first which has some of the same color of wires so you need to tag them just to be sure :)
The rework was successful :) I got the FM all straighten out and the AM still works :)
The FM signal meter now works better after I cleaned the attenuator switch on the back. I also found 4 dead caps in the FM boards. As it was every spot checked cap was at least 50% high in the measurements. So the 10uf caps measured in at 15uf or higher and so on. The radio sounds really good now.. even before an alignment.
 
I wish I could do alignments. I do not have a scope or signal generator. I will have them one day in the future though.

Glad to hear it is back in business.
