Stupidity

in the sellers defense, there was a post recently on AK about a pair of speakers that were saved from the dump (can't remeber the model #) and all that could be salvaged was the front baffles (with drivers and electronics, the cabinets had been water damaged beyond repair). Now this may be a similar situation?

I'm willing to bet someone out there has some spare cabinets or who needs the components, heck he could have thrown it all into the landfill :thumbsdn:, I don't know what the consensus is on KLH 6's but this is one pair that may get a new life.:music:

The original cabinets may indeed have been beyond repair, but I wish if that was the case they would say so. It would distinguish the seller from the ones who are so dumb they don't know the cabinet does anything, or the ones who have no idea that a water stain on walnut can be cleaned up and re-oiled and look just fine, so they trash a restorable cabinet. Is this guy an idiot, is he just ignorant or is he a thrifty recycler to be commended for saving the business end of the speakers? :dunno:

If you're going to take the time to list something, how long does a couple of sentences of info take? 60 seconds? :sigh:

If it were a high Q woofer, the set might sound quite good open-baffle. But it probably isn't, and probably doesn't...

so now it needs a subwoofer. The right person could still make something good out of those.

prism of thrifty recycler ...

I'll look through the prism of thrifty recycler ...

If the buyer can't figure out it needs a box and possibly stuffing, to be used ... then the Stupidity Meter would start pointing to the reader.

The seller does say it is "complete, minus cabinet. sounds great!" I guess it can sound stupid depending on how you read it and with the right inflection. Reminds me of Kramer in a Seinfeld skit where he has to rehearse his single line for a movie. In fact, AK reminds me a lot of Seinfeld lately. ;)

Anyway, I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps targeted and enough to interest Do It Yourselfers to ask further questions.
