Stylus alignment on Elac Miracord 770H

I got my Benjamin Elac Miracord 770H out last night and decided to put it back in use while I do some work on my Pioneer PL-50. I've been using a Shure M95ED recently on the PL-50 so I took it off and put it on the 770H.

This is the confusing part to me and I hope one of you Miracord owners can help me out. The 770H has a stylus guage on it that is just a peg that tapers to a point and is just pulled up to line up the diamond with the point. My problem is where do I view it from to align it. If you view it from one angle it's fine but when you view it from a slightly different angle it is off. The manual gives a picture but doesn't say how to view it. If the guage would come up and be able to touch the diamond it wouldn't be a problem for me but it comes up to the right of the stylus. The only thing that makes sense to me is to line it up between the stylus guage and the spindle but I just don't know for sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am unsure exactly what the issue is -- can you post a diagram or a picture of the situation? I always assumed that the stylus tip was supposed to be right above the tip of the guage. Is the problem that the arm itself is resting at a different point than it would need to for the two tips to align, or is the cartridge skewed in the headshell?
 
Having reread the question, I now think that the simple answer is: look dead on to the front of the headshell to make sure the stylus is centered over the pin. Now look at a right angle from the side of the headshell to check front and back alignment.
I'm guessing that the problem is the OP is looking straight at the turntable, rather than straight at the headshell.

Hey Nat, I'm sorry I haven't got back to this thread. I thought (for sure) I subscribed to this thread and when I didn't get an email I just assumed nobody replied to it. Thank you very much for your input.

I'll get some pics up a little later today showing the situation I have with this alignment. It's not just a cut-and-dry. The stylus cannot be put directly over the "Stylus Position Guage" as it's called in the manual. The manual also says; "When the stylus is positioned directly above the guage, it is in it's optimum position." The frustration I'm having is there is no way to position the stylus directly above the guage. I have to get the pics up and then my problem will be evident.

I have a couple of 770's in my collection and i have never had a problem
aligning the sytlus to the guage point. What cartridge are you trying to align.
