Sub wiring question - please help !

Hi folks

First off, Happy Holidays to you all !

I just picked up an inexpensive powered subwoofer off of Ebay, thinking it would help enhance the Advent 5002's I am using.....unfortunately, I jumped the gun and didn't check to see that the sub did not have outputs....

In the past, running into a passive sub that also had only inputs, I ran the signal from the receiver into the sub inputs, then back out of the inputs to the 'satellites'.....can I do this with the powered sub without putting my receiver or my Advents at risk?

Thanks for the anticipated help !

Most powered subs have speaker level inputs and outputs in addition to line level inputs. If your new one is equipped (most likely) that way, wire it up the same way your passive was.

Some powered subs have line level inputs and outputs. You can use those if your amp/receiver has pre out power/main in connectors. Go from preouts to the sub and from the line outs on the sub to the power/main in.

Thanks for the response....
My sub has no outputs at all .....so, whatever I use as a wiring plan , it has to be using them alone...

Yes, that is fine to do. With most powered subs that have both speaker inputs and outputs, the outputs are just tapping of the inputs. Some go through high pass filtering before output.

You could have actually put your receiver at risk by running a passive sub that way since it dropped your speaker impedance.
