Sugden 140 integrated amp

Good morning (or evening if in UK)

I just purchased a nice Sugden 140 integrated amp. I decided to give it a test drive.
I unplugged my Classe Seventy/Thirty and replaced with the Sugden thru my Spendor SP 1/2 speakers.
I was surprised to find the Sugden was actually more musical. Not as precise but more warm tubelike.
The Classe' pair was more detailed and brighter.
I need to start looking for a phono preamp and a British CD player.
Any advice or ideas?

Sugden do make phonostages but they're quite a bit more expensive.
