Hello dear fellows,

Rainy, cold week in Montreal but I found today an excellent heater: the Sugden A28B. It was on Kijiji and I was the first who saw it. When I came to buy it, I saw the Sugden Optima CDP sitting on top of it. I wanted to buy, but the gentleman already promised it to someone. I have to say that he earns my respect, because he kept the amp 2 days for me, and didn't want to sell the CD player even if I was already there asking to buy it immediately.
Anyway I'm very happy to get the Sudden A28B. I heard somewhere that Sugden beats Bryston. Is that true?
I'm surprised that there are really few threads about the model I just got. Everybody talk about the legendary A21, but it's considerably older than the A28B. Is it really so much superior to the A28B? The A21 is pure Class A, and the A28B runs the first 15 watts in class A.

I heard the Class A amp runs hot, and I plugged the amp and listened for about 1 hour the volume button at 10-11 o'clock, and I didn't find it hot.
What is strange is that the Balance knob is kinda working: when I turn to right, the sound on right speaker is louder, but there is still sound on left speaker. Then I turned to left and left speaker is louder but still sound on right. More precisely, it's like The knob is boosting Left or Right Channel, without cutting the other. Is it normal?

And the feet of the amp has melted down! Here are some pics:

The plastic button for the F.E. is missing: but what F.E. stands for? Kind of Ground for the Phono?

Otherwise, paired with my Camber-Rega 2.5, the sound is really musical. It¨s like my Fisher X101C, with more precise bass.
I love this kind of sound, but I wonder if everything is ok with the amp.
Do you have experience with this particular Sugden amp? I just know that it produces about 40 watts.

Update today. Hear it with a pair of Rogers Ls/4a definitely British sound is what I like.

No love for the Sugden A28B? I was so happy to get it and now I'm asking myself if my pleasure to listen to it is not a psychoacoustic thing...
 
I also brought my A28B last year from kijiji. It was also from montreal while my colleague pick it up for me as I live in toronto. My unit can consider as a NOS unit, the owner told me he use it for a month then put it back to the box and store it for the last 20 years! I couldn't believe him how he can forget this little amp especially she sounds so wonderful! Although I am a tube lover, I own some other amp from el34 push pull to M7 clone preamp, 6dj8 preamp + threshold, sumo poweramp... they sounds nice but took long time to warmup, tube rolling is fun but time consuming task, kind of love and hate for me. I always long for a simple integrated transistor amp and I has been hunt for a Sugden for years. It is not so common in my area. My first impression to A28b was she runs hot! I couldnt believe she classified as class ab, she is way hotter than my NAD. I am very enjoy the warm sound from this little amp, I notice I can listen to the same song at a lower volume and she deliver the same amount of details when compare to my bigger pre power amp combo. I am very happy to have this little amp adding to my music system.

I love Dire Straits too!
I don't have any experience other than the A28B, but from what I get from the A28B, even if it doesn't have so much consideration as other Sudden, like the A21 for example, I would buy all the Sudden gears available if I had the opportunity and the cash.
I would like to hear from others, more knowledgeable than me, what would be their opinions about the ones you mention Soun!
