Suggestions for a small integrated amp?

Many good suggestions.
I would go with Jorge and Peter and recommend the NAD 3020, the original little giant killer integrated amp.

I was looking for it seems years in thrift stores for about the same thing for my computer sound. Finally found a Technics SU-C04 intergated amp. It's a little less then 12" wide, 3" tall and 10" deep. Vintage silver, all metal, around the power you want, 30wpc. Haven't seen any on E-bay but it's a little gem of a amp. Here is a picture. Recommended if you can find one.

I agree on this little amp...I still have a tuner from this series...I can't speak to whether it can drive a 4 ohm load though...there also was a mini-Yamaha system similar to these. I know that my Yamaha CA-810 can do the job...driven two pairs of 8 ohm speakers for years (as well as a single pair of 6 ohm ADS).

I'm suprised no one has mentioned the Marantz 1060 or 1060b. This is a great 30wpc amp, with nice controls (bass, treble AND midrange), high and low filters, and a ton built. The original 1060 features more imputs- two front mic plugs on the front and pre-out/main ins and all round knobs and can be had for $60-$120, the 1030 loses the mic imputs, the pre-out/main ins, and replaces some of the round knobs with sliders. I've seen these sell as low as $30. The phono stage is great in these, and many lament ever selling theirs.

I also like the low-profile Sansui 317s (50wpc) and 217s (40wpc). The 217s can be had for as little as $40, the 317s seem to be going for $75 to $150 as this model was the more powerful of the low profile Sansuis, before stepping up to the 417 full size.

I would guess one of the small Sansui integrateds would sound great with your KLH's.

I have an AU-317 and it's great.

Don't let the small size and 35WPC (under-rated) fool ya... This little devil is a wolf in sheep's clothing!

My 317 is rated 50wpc. I think you've got more power in that diminutive little 317 than you think!

Maybe that's why the windows bow when I turn it up to '12 O' Clock high?

I've always been told it was a 35WPC amp... Honestly, 50WPC wouldn't surprise me at all. I love the little beast!

I have a Kenwood KA-5500 that needs some TLC. While it won't be a beauty queen, once cleaned up and a new relay installed it ought to be fine and perfectly presentable.

All good suggestions, I think grumpy had a 1060 in the classified for $60.00.
I have the smallish Kenwood KA-5700, and Pioneer SA-7500II. Glad nobody has mentioned the Sonic T-Amp/AR TDS-202. :puke2: Doh!

For a friend, I was looking for a small integrated amp for the same purpose... to hook up to his computer to power his old AR-2's. He wanted something at least 20-40w/ch to drive the AR's. The little T-amp was not going to do it.

I looked on eBay all month and what I found was you could pick up quite nice receivers, much wider selection and more powerful, than you could small integrated amps.

What I ended up getting him was a Teac AVG-2050 surround receiver, 100 w/ch front, 20w/ch rear for, hang on to your hat, INCLUDING shipping, $50. Plus it had a working remote. And a very very good tuner section. I was impressed.

He was a little miffed at the size, at first. Then he took it home, swapped it out for his stereo receiver. Admitted it was a much better receiver than he had in his stereo system. And now uses his old receiver with his computer. And he's very happy with the Teac.

Every so often I'll gig him.. hey, I found a little amp for you. I'll give you the little amp, and buy that Teac off you. He won't bite... :D

So, take a second look at receivers.

Don't leave us hanging!

I am lucky to be surrounded with people who have such good taste.

Aaron (Inspiribomb) has been so kind as to hook me up with a Toshiba C15/M15/F15 Combo. Kind of a freak of nature, the design concepts are very intriguing. Sounds pretty dern good if you ask me.

Here's some pictures in magical-clean-desk-land - its mostly fictional. I plan on wall-mounting the speakers at some point as well, I am unsure about restoring the KLH's anytime soon.

Thanks to Rich for the suggestion!

Now THAT is a sweet little setup. You should hear them after they have been recapped.

You know...I think I'm a bit jealous...

Well, eventually. Can I sign you up to do it for me someday Rich? My SA-9900 and TX-9500 are my main focus right now.

Sounds real good. This little Toshiba is very tight and accurate, the Athena speakers match very nicely sonically and otherwise.

Dan, I can highly recommend Rich for this project. He "did mine up right," and I couldn't be happier. When you can get the money together, I recommend buying some short nice IC's for those, especially from preamp to power amp. I tried some Goertz Alpha Core .5m interconnects (courtesy of Ron [Doucanoe]), and could hear an improvement, namely with cymbal decay and other highs. I can't wait to hear my NHT's with my silver setup :D
