Any suggestions on a high efficiency speaker kit to build and not break the bank? I have some low watt tube amps and looking for more efficient speakers, thought best bank for buck is to find a DIY kit.

thanks.

Have you looked at the Parts Express project gallery? They have lots of DIY, some of which use cabinets already built or sold as flat pack kits. And the goals of each design, such as high efficiency, are stated for each.

Are you thinking bookshelf (probably not as most are not highly sensitive), floorstanding, wide and short, tall and thin, ??

Full range would be one driver doing everything. Can be very efficient and imaging is great but few drivers can produce low bass and high treble.

After that, two-way, three-way, etc.

What kind of music do you listen to? Which parts of the music spectrum are essential to get right? Deep extended bass for example?

looking for floor standing. I have a magnavox 9304 which is not huge when it comes to watts, so I'm looking for good way to get a high efficiency speaker for a lower diy cost. I'm pretty open to all options.

For a first DIY project, i would go with a single full range driver, maybe an 8inch
or more, in a large BLH enclosure!. I'm no full range expert to guide you into wich drivers to get but, for low price, efficiency, nice tube sound and ease of construction, that's what i'd do!

My mains are DIYSoundGroup. Fantastic service and unbelievably thorough packing. They are determined to help you pick exactly the right speaker for your needs, no more and no less.

Speaker Design Works has some high sensitivity designs:

Bill Fitzmaurice sells plans:

You might also look into open baffle speakers. The woodwork is as simple as it gets, there are high sensitivity drivers, and it's a deep rabbit hole of finding the next drivers to audition. Lowther PM5's?:

You should consider a subwoofer to go with your new small speakers. Unfortunately, efficiency tends to be low unless you accept large boxes and/or a higher cutoff frequency.

Maybe read thru that Lii Audio Drivers thread that is current here. Seems like several members have been trying out their high efficiency drives with great results in some DIY builds.
