Suggestions to replace my Klipsch La Scalas

12x13x12. But yeah, amp isn't really suitable either.
 
That PARTICULAR DUNLAVY was an amazing speaker. Audio Classics is building their version now. But at $36,000 a pair for the big bad version its probably a bit out of your range. You can see it at their website in one of their display rooms.

I own 936's too and have heard La Scala set up in a well sorted room with Mc gear. The Focals do at least 90% of the dynamics of the La Scala, 125% of the imaging, and just stomp them into the ground in the bass department.

How big was the room that made the 936 a speaker that wouldn't work?

There is (or was) a pair of Dunlavy SC IVs for sale in KC well within the OP's price range.

They are awesome.
 
Over the weekend I had a friend allow me to bring their Heresy II into my room, and man are they a good fit. Lots of heritage klipsch sound without trying to run me out of the room. I really like them and its the first time I have felt the music is "warm" from a klipsch speaker. I hope they stick around for sure!

I also found a set of Focal Aria 926 at a price I couldn't pass up. After a bunch of research this weekend I think they are going to be a good fit size vs. sound wise in my room. They should be here on Friday. With these 2 as options, it will either give me something a bit more refined and a rock speaker as well. I may be done looking for a while or this may just be another stop on the search for the right speaker. Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone!
 
Have you considered any larger horn loaded JBL's like the L300/4333B? I have had several Klipsch horn loaded speakers and I personally find the JBL horns to be smoother and far less harsh, easier to listen to at high volume, and yet they still image beautifully and reproduce music very accurately without undue harshness or shrillness. I have just about finished with a pair of JBL 4343 monitors that I totally sonically rebuilt and am cosmetically refinishing now in your budget range. They are leaps and bounds beyond any Klipsch I have owned. I also would recommend any large ADS. A pair or ADS 1290's, 1590's or 910's would be far far smoother than your horns, and would produce better bass, especially on your room size. I have never had anyone dislike my ADS 1290 or 810 after hearing them. With your budget, there are a lot of options. The Dunlavy are also very nice if you can find any.

Those L300 have a Cornwall look. I should consider some of the JBL lines but admittedly i don't know much about them.
 
So after some listening to the Heresy II, I have decided to keep them. They are a better fit for the room than the La Scalas, and are fantastic in my setup! I Love that I can keep the klipsch heritage sound in my music room. They are fun speakers for sure and will need a few things to make them even better. caps in the crossovers, some basic room treatments etc, but for now they are awesome and aren't going anywhere.

I also jumped on a pair of Focal Aria 926 speakers that I just got last night. So where have these speakers been all of my life! I was skeptical when I ordered them but they fit the room, and with only have 2 hours of play time on them so far I just can't imagine them getting better after the 20-100 hour break in. It is to early to give complete impressions but they do everything I wanted a speaker to do in my room so far....

oh, yea set of La Scalas for sale in DFW area if you're interested :)

I think they do get better with use, specifically in the midrange.

I've had a pair of Klipsch Chorus IIs that have followed me around the country in various moves since 1995. When I die they'll be buried in adjacent plots to my left and to my right. I concur on the recommendation above.
