Hello all, I was given a Sumiko Blue Point high output MC cartridge. It looks identical to the Blue Point No 2 except the branding only says "Blue Point" without the No 2. Safe to assume this is the original version? I can't find any spec details on it. Only in the No 2. Appreciate the helpIMG_5854.jpegIMG_5853.jpegIMG_5852.jpeg

Those are very nice sounding cartridges! I've heard them on friends' tables and always liked the way they sounded. I've had a Sumiko Blackbird, personally, and thought it was quite good as well. The Blue Point Special EVO III is a particularly nice one, the "little brother" of the Blackbird, and I have had one on a friend's table that I repaired for a few weeks and listened to it quite a bit.

As an aside, from the pictures it does not appear that this is a new cartridge, even though it was in the box when you got it. I would really like to know how many hours are on it and assess wear. Do you have someone nearby who might be able to help you with this? Happy listening, amigo!!!

No, it is not the original. The original was a P mount cartridge. There is an article in Stereophile that gives a bit of background. Maybe you have a "Special" that is not a No. 2 version?
