summer camps/programs for building computers?

Does anyone know of any summer camps/programs where you can build a computer, maybe learn some more about building/assembling computers, and then take home the computer you build?

I tried googling for this, but all I find are things like build your own video games and build your own computer games.

Thanks!

For a beginner, youll have a harder time getting the software set up smoothly than you will putting the physical hardware into the case. All of the slots on a motherboard are keyed according to the type of hardware it takes, not much you can mess up there.

I follow the advise my drunken gandpa used to give me. "I'll fix it when I break it." Just grab the parts and software and dive right in. Most everything just goes in one way. You'll be OC'ing the RAM in no time

Google would be your best friend in this case. You can google just about anything and get a response back that would help you with your questions. Software will probably be the only problem you have with your machine, because sometimes there can be a few glitches that hold a machine back until the workaround is completed. However, a lot of custom computer builds never run into any problems with software issues.

If you need help with what parts to buy I'm sure a lot of us could make up a parts list for you to meet your goals. Computers are a fun thing to build and work on and with new technology coming out every quarter keeps them interesting and ever-changing.

My friend ended up volunteering at a place that takes in old computers, fixes them and then gives them to needy families (required some community service to graduate high school). This was in Portland, OR. So there are places like that.

There are people that think the tabs are to break off so you can match them. :sigh:
