Sunday in the rain...

It looks like our local tributary river of the Connecticut River is pretty near flood…hmm. The newspaper says about another five days of rain. It’s raining out, but I still went for my usual Sunday walk and to listen to a recorded short story, Malloy’s “Travis B.”—good story. The walk starts in the woods and then back out to the local streets, about 4 or 5 miles total. It’s nice to walk through neighborhoods and be the first one up…no cars, just the birds and the falling rain.

The red buds, dogwoods and other trees are still abloom. The red buds are particularly pretty. In the woods there are cardinals, orioles, flickers, downy woodpeckers and sometimes, if I’m lucky, a pileated woodpecker at a shag-bark hickory (not this morning though).

Now I’m at my office (wet!) typing this and then back out to complete the walk and make a Mother’s Day breakfast (with our boys still asleep, no doubt!). Eggs, bacon, coffee and pancakes…I think that I’ll make a fire too to take the chill off.

Have a nice Sunday to all at AK, and Happy Mother’s Day to any AK moms!

Ah, I just noticed that there’s another Yamaha CR-220 out there at ebay, with “…an FM issue…”. Merrylander taught me how to fix this (thanks Rob!), maybe if I’m the high bidder, I can fix this one too (unless another outbids me!), and give it a new life...such nice sounding little receivers at 15 wpc.

Ever notice how much quieter and peaceful Sunday mornings are, with so much less traffic? I'm up early, and on Sunday mornings, I can hear birds singing from blocks away, and the lack of the traffic roar is unreal. I live near a couple of main routes in town, and hours can go by without a single car, where during the week, it's non-stop traffic, exhaust, and dust. Ah, peace and quiet... for at least one day of the week.
