Super 8 Projector But No Sound

Hi, forum noob here searching for an answer. I have a Chinon Super 8 Sound projector model SP-330MV recently purchased. It is a home-movie projector that can process Super 8mm film with sound. The seller assured me that it was thoroughly tested including the sound feature. I have a spare receiver/tuner and a pair of bookshelf speakers that I'm testing with. Once I received it I tested it with three different reels of sound film and the video works correctly on all three, but no audio on any of them. So I'm troubleshooting no sound coming from the projector when it was tested as functional.

There is an RCA connector labeled EXT SP on the back of the projector. The manual (yes, I have that too!) says that is to be used to connect the projector directly to an external speaker. I have done that, to two different bookshelf-class speakers. When I play the projector the video is good, but I get no audio through the speaker.

There is another connector on the front of the unit, far left. It is a 1/8" stereo jack labeled Line Out Moni. The manual says that is for connecting the projector to an amp and from there to a speaker. I have connected that to my spare amp/tuner combo that is also connected to the speakers I used in the first test above, using a stereo-to-RCA cable. And that produces no sound. Oh and I have tested that combination using the tuner, and it works fine, speakers sound bright & clear.

Is there a way to measure the sound coming through the cable? How can I test further to know where the problem is? Thanks for any guidance.

No small switches anywhere concerning the sound output?
I had a super 8 camera and projector years ago, but no sound for either though.
 
I'm not familiar with that projector, but try and see if the sound head is aligned with the mag stripe on the film.

Other than that, are you sure the output of the 3.5mm jack is stereo? Could just be mono tip-sleeve to a single RCA. If the jack is contacting high up on the connector, it could be touching the ring of the stereo 3.5mm-RCA cable you have instead of the sleeve.
 
Your films likely have no audio tracks. Under magnification you should see the sound track on 1 side of your films. If all you see are the image frames without the audio track, there's your "problem ".

You would need a mono plug to seat that 3.5mm jack properly. It could be the head was bumped out of alignment in shipping. Good call.

this. Many of the Super8 cams I've seen had no audio recording functionality built in.
