Super Receivers - Revised list.

At 25 years old this year (I think) and at 140 x 2 into 8 ohm my Carver HR-772 makes the cut. I've requested this unit function as the pollow in my coffin when my time is up.

Sony strGX10 ES 150 WPC made in 88 89 Only 2000 made , Great fully ANALOGUE two channel beast ! Of course I own one !

I think this should be a sticky, what do you guys think?

Too damn many stickies already but wait there is more. It should be in a sticky with 12-100 other posts that are informative with a proper title for each link. That way it is a sticky but not stuck to the top and me scrolling past it 363 days a year, numerous times a day as I use AK. Those other 2-3 days a year, right there in that big, fat 100 link sticky is this one for when I need it.

Why can't this be the way?

Its not mine but a stock photo as I cant take any good pics .. Fully copper coated chassis. The phono pre amp is amazing and whats even better is the analogue tuner .. First time I can listen to FM and be amazed at the image !

I made a revised list of all the super receivers.

I think I understand you definition of a Super (Killer) Reciever !

Consideration of what makes a Killer Reciever is based upon Frequency Respone and Total Harmonic Distortion !

Pioneer VSX-D1S

THD: 0.005%

FR: 5hz-100khz

160 WPC in two channel stereo mode.

Any receiver that has one percent of THD or more can not be considered great !

Also, any receiver that does not fall within the parameters of 10hz-80khz for frequency response is not a super receiver.

This has been an audiophile prerequiste for many generations......

I dunno, it's like 9 years old,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sorry, but age has nothing to do with the capability of equipment. Total Harmonic Distortion and Frequency Respone is what you are listening to and older equipment has better audiophile specifications !

A glance at my signature may confirm my belief in vintage,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I was referring to the guy that I quoted wanting a nine year old thread to suddenly become a sticky,,,,,,, if it was gonna happen woulda been a long time ago I think.

I can't takes it no more! We have to put Black Shrek on that list. Perfect in every way - except one.

It's >25y old, very VERY powerful, and can be temperamental I hear (thankfully I've not seen this side of Black Shrek, and hope not to). At the same time, it's loyal (to the recording) and always comes through in the end and does the right thing - produces perfect (IMO) sound at my chair. And it has a remote (responds to commands from Far Far Away).

It's just not really, well, considered very good looking by many. In fact, there are those who cringe at its face. Even I, who quit looking for something better (but not done buying things, it's a sickness - you all know that), look at my beautiful old silver Pioneer integrated and sometimes think "Why not you Black Shrek? It's just not fair." So I guess I'm Donkey. Black Shrek's my best friend.

So fill in the blank here, Black Shrek, to be never abandoned but rightfully added to the list of Super Receivers, is....

Denon AVR 3000 .(early mid 90s)110 wpc.I wouldn't put just any black plastic on this list.
