Supposedly this is an original WC-23

I found this on the bay.

It is being touted as an original but I've never seen a Marantz case with duel vents on it. In one of the images it has WC-43 on it which makes more sense as they say it fits the 2325 and 2330 which I know take the WC-43 but it's vents are all wrong for a WC-43. I'm thinking this is just a badly beaten up reproduction. I was thinking of making a low ball offer because of condition and refinishing it myself if it was indeed original. $225 is way, way too expensive, either way.

I took a chance on a WC22 reproduction out of Germany for $189. It took a while to get, but it was beautiful. I bought an original WC22 in the 70's, and you would not be able to tell the difference. I noticed a seller out of Serbia selling new repro's on eBay for $139. The photos look great, and I'm thinking about giving it a try. I would refinish one if sellers weren't so proud of their beat up originals, but the one I got from Germany was perfect.

In my opinion it is an original WC 123, not a reproduction.

This is for the 2330b and probably the 2330. It will not fit the 2385, 2500 or the 2600. There were 2 types of wood cases for these models. One was a single WC (like this one) and the other was the 3 piece WC-123.

It will probably fit the 2325 but I don't think it was made for that unit since the 2330 models replaced the 2325. You are correct in that you probably will never see this on a 2325 since that model used the single large vent like the WC-22.

Regarding price, these are rare hard to find pieces. Collectors know this and all u need is one willing to pay that price. You can get a reproduction but they are very easy to tell they are not original. However, they are in "new condition".

As a collector and a seller both, I have purchased both. Make sure the finish looks like the original maple colors.

My guess is the seller is not going to get the BIN price he's asking so try a lower offer and see what happens.

As an alternative, I think we have a couple members here that make new ones. One who I have bought from many times in the past goes by the name of PENNINW on the bay. Do a search there for "marantz cabinets" and you will see his work. Email him and see if he has the cabinet you are looking for.

I have several vintage Marantz pieces and if they didn't come with an original cabinet, I bought a new repro from him and have been happy with all of them.

I have two of his cabinets both are nice. He will also use lighter or darker stains to your liking.

I have a couple of the "gold/engraved" 2270's. Two came with original cabinets, on the third I had the idea to have him do a darker stain on his repro because the "g/e's" have a darker color than the normal ones. I like the way it looks.
