surprising results tested a denon poa2200,sansui2102,kenwood,phase linear yesterday

I was looking for a new amp to run my Janszen electrostats,went over to a friends who has an extensive collection of vintage stuff.We set up a sytem to test several amps he was willing to sell, a denon poa2200,sansui b2102b,phase linear not sure model #,kenwood km106, and a 107.We used a sae pre and cd player and spica t50 speakers.To are surprise the sansui sounded the best ,the kenwood 106 and 107 a very very close second,followed by the denon and then the phase linear.For the price of a $100. I chose the kenwood and for another $100 he threw in the pre amp,tuner,and remote conrol unit.Now I wanted the sansui pretty bad for the looks and the huge build quality but would of costed me about 350 + and I did not have a pre amp thus more cost .So did some research on the kenwwod 106 found at oaktree audio there was one in the sold listings and had very good test results 180 watts per channel and 38 volts at 8 ohms.They also reviewed it as looks and sounds fantastic has huge power supply and lots of punch and headroom.

I am surprised. My POA-2200 is excellent.
I do have three Kenwood amps. The big brothers to yours--KM-208 & KM-206.
 
That's a bit surprising to me as well...the little KM-106 is built around those "Darlington Power Packs" that grace the innards of many of their modern amplifiers...
 
Count me surprised as well.
I'm a fan of some of Kenwood's products.:yes:
They're not all so distinguished.

Sansui the best? Impossible. The others must be damaged.
 
I,m not partial to any of these brands do not want to create a chevy vs ford thing, but to further explain where I was coming from let me say that when all these amps and many more that my friend has sitting on the shelf ,I certainly admired the denon,the sansui and so on .So when the not so big relatively basic kenwood was tested I was surprised ,and again these were played thru some spica t50s. Maybe later we will play some more and test them on the dlk4s or some larger speakers.So I had in my mind that I was going to be taking a denon home because i had been admiring it for a couple weeks,but for the cost I figured I would start with the kenwwod and you no as well as I ,that likely I will try to aquire one of those other amps later because we are all infected.:yes:
 
Enjoy your new Kenwood. When I started in this hobby years ago I had a KR-7600 Kenwood reciever. It drove Infinity Quantum 5's rather well. :yes:

Back then I wanted the KR-9600 but at 20 years old didn't have the coin.:no: I have a KR-9600 now, it sounds most excellent into a pair of a/d/s L1590's.

No need for "loudness" control, the thing sounds punchy and clean.

The Kenwoods are not so much in the eye of the vintage buyer, which means good value for you and me! Enjoy :music:

Glad you found an amp that you really liked, no matter what brand it is. I'm happy to hear you found an amp with synergy with your speakers, and most important, that you are happy with, as that's the most important thing.
