Swap out Dynaco A25 tweeters with Advent Loudspeaker orange tweeters?

Looking for some advice. If I want to swap out my Dynaco A25 tweeters and put in Advent Large Loudspeaker orange "egg" tweeters. Is that a simple swap out by just wiring out and in the new tweeter in the A25 cabinet or do I need to check the crossover/replace it? Thoughts? Anybody done this - got a good result?

The A25 IMHO is one of the nicest speakers ever made. It's a simple elegant design and the chances of you dropping in a Advent speaker/tweeter and getting a good result seem remote. If you blew a tweeter -why not look for a unit being partsed out and restore it rather than taking a poke at changing it. The blend between woofer and tweeter on these is unusually good -not the best High frquency detail by today's standerds - but a Advent tweeter isn't going to improve on that much.

Thanks much. Members from another forum suggest I replace the capacitors and resistors in the crossover first as a line of improvement. Any suggestions on great quality caps or resistors for this great speaker that will improve on an already great speaker appreciated!

If you the tweeter still dont work and if you are stickler to sanctity of the speakers, ApexJr.site sells a pair for 15 bucks and they are supposedly fit perfectly with A25 design. Check that out.

I can understand the OPs interest in using Advent tweeters - IMHO, they seem to be the best tweeter in any speaker that is relatively easy to obtain.

Wow! I've never heard that before. I would find a Dynaco replacement tweeter and recap the xover before using any other tweeter that was not designed for the A25.

It is important that the new tweeters have the same impedance curve as the original. If it is not the same impedance, it will cross over at a completely different frequency........not good. It's a lot more complicated than just swapping tweeters.

I totally don't understand this, as IMHO the Infinity EMIT is perhaps one of or maybe the best performing tweeter ever built and are readily available for not much money.

But back to the OP's question--it is rather difficult for an "amateur" to swap out drivers with good effect. I am not a speaker/crossover designer/engineer, so I leave that to the pros. I'm sure I could cobble something together, but to what end, I don't know. The Dynaco A25 (as well as the Advents) are fairly well-respected in their own right, with their own followings--I personally, would never attempt to "butcher" them and make them something that they were not intended to be--but that is just me.

In my area, we practically trip over Advents of various vintages and sizes for sale, not so much for Infinity speakers. All I know is from personal ears; my "The Smaller Advents" with green tweets beat out my EPI-100s, KLH-32s, and Dynaco A25s for sound quality.

I personally own 2 pairs of A25's, albeit they're in the closet right now, but I'd never ruin them with a pair of Advent orange or green tweeters. Leave them as they are and maybe replace the single cap on them. If you don't like them, sell them to someome that does. Just dont ruin them. I've owned large and small Advent speakers....i don't anymore.
