Those are really nice and rapidly approaching $5K. I would like to know what speakers he has in the background, on the stands, with the old foam looking grills?
 
That's the cleanest pair I've seen in quite a while, with a day to go in the auction the price may break $6000!

That's an amazing amount of money for what is arguably a very nice pair of L300s. Especially when you consider there's over a day left on the auction before the real bidding starts.

But if a person had large amounts of disposable cash, I think for the money I would much rather have these than the last few pairs of the L220's which sold for over 4000 dollars!

I am in absolute agreement.

However, the same people that would bid that much for the Discos and Oracles are likely to bid these L300s into the six-grand range—if not more. It's not about the value. Once they hit double what I paid for my 4345s I'll just have a good laugh. The L300 was always my dream speaker, until I heard the 4333 and knew I wanted more. Let's face it, you're paying for the WAF and furniture—and overpaying for the audio experience.

More power to those who can afford them. I'd buy them, too, if I had the money to just let them sit in my JBL museum. I think they'd be Pair Number Thirteen!

I'm feeling pretty good about what I paid for my early pair of near mint 4430's. In my room, with my equipment, I will take them over the L300 or L220 any day!:yes:

On the contrary, I would be more nervous as the seller, as the protection with paypal would make me worried that someone would claim it had a scratch that wasn't pictured and want some reduction or some story like that. Then after its all said and done you have to worry about his packing returning them and then relisting them. For an item thats under 50 dollars no big deal but when you start dealing with large speakers, and unknown buyers the sky's the limit.

Most likely no good will come of this, and we'll probably never hear the true story. But where else are you gonna get a five-grand bid on old speakers? Craig's List local pickup in Oregon will net maybe three-grand, if that. Oregon is one ocean away from Japan so shipping is no big deal for those playing with buckets of Yen.
 
Last pair brought $6,100 +, should be a good time to sell. Hope for him there's still a couple hungry buyers out there. They sure are nice.
 
I'v heard a lot of talk re the economy and the days of big bucks for the large format JBL speakers was over, don't look that way. As for Japan there is little need for the Japanese to import L300s, they probably have as many as in the US. Maybe not the ultimate JBL but like the Paragon if you wnat to make a statement and have the money it's hard to top these.

I was thinking the same thing - they look like bizarro L100 grills!? Very cool looking, wish I could read the front badges...
