SX-1050, SX-1250 speaker switch differences

The OM for the SX-5580 states that even if all three speaker switches are depressed, only two sets will play. I don't know how the unit decides which speaker set to not play but this is for the protection of the unit because using 8Ω speakers would yield a <3Ω load with three sets playing.

When the third switch is engaged, ALL speakers go silent. This is determined by both the 8 gang speaker switches AS WELL AS the pattern of their connections on the PC board.

Mike Ray, were you waiting for some type of answer from me?

No not really....we seem to have solved the mystery. I would like your thoughts on the differences between the models if you ever get round to studying the schematics!

A small problem that I've found is that spks 1 have now lost most of the left channel. Spks 2&3 are fine and I've checked the resistance of the attached spks and the are both the same at around 6 ohms. ( Roksan candy K2). I can only think this must be the spkr switch itself unless anyone has any better thoughts which now may justify a spkr switch swap for one without a bar??

Perhaps the speaker switch contacts for speaker 1 are dirty. Have you used Deoxit on the receiver to clean the switches and pots?
