Sx-1050 Wow!!

I just recieved my SX-1050.Unbelievable Sound.
I have A SX-780 and a SX-880 and you can hear a difference between the 780 and 880 mostly in the Bass.
This SX-1050 is just amazing I cant believe how full and rich the sound is at low volumes as well as turned up there is actually destinction in the bass notes not just a sloppy fill.
I have a feeling that I will be getting rid of my 780 and 880 and keeping the 2 1050s that I won on Ebay.
I stumbled across the second one this weekend for $150.00 Buy it now and it looks great.Hopefully it is packaged as well as the first SX-1050 it was double boxed and surrounded in foam the Outer box was 24x27x18.

I can imagine sx-1050 sounding good. I have the sx-1250 and it sounds very good. They say 1050 and 1250 have the same spec other than the power output so I get the idea. :D Might want to check make sure the inside electronics are good. When I got my 1250, regulator needed alot of repair and the main amp needed repair and biasing and dc offset adjusted. After it was fixed, it sounded smooth even the bass as well.

I just closed a deal tonight on my first Pioneer, a fully serviced SX-950, and I'm looking forward to getting that, but I also have a line on a fully serviced SX-1050 that will be ready in the next couple of months. I'm looking forward to getting into these old big rigs. :music:

Thanks for the Advice on inspecting and Adjusting,I will get into the manuals and fiqure it out.
Right now its hard to mess with something that does not seem broke.
I have a set of Pioneer HPM 60s and a single HPM 100.
I really like the sound of these but they seem to lack a little mid bass compared to a set of 10inch woofer 2 way Bose Speakers that I have (not sure of the model#.
I just sold a set of KLH Model fives on Ebay and They had really good sound other than they seemed very flat for Mid Bass almost like they were crossed over wrong,I used to build custom car Stereos and It was amazing what you could acomplish by working with the Crossovers.

Glad you are enjoying that SX-1050. :thmbsp:

I'm listening to an SX-950 at this moment. It's the newest in my "stack" of SX-950, SX-1050, and SX-1950. Still hoping to find the SX-980 and SX-1980 at affordable prices, too. Originally, I only planned to keep ONE Pioneer receiver (probably an SX-1250), just to have an example of a Pioneer, but they really seem to "grow on you". I can't see letting any of these go very easily, now. They look elegant, and put out some very nice :music: , indeed!

It Appears that the 4 digit models sx-1050 1080 etc are built different than the 3 digit models SX-750 780.
I do have a question for anyone who may know.
I Used to Run a Yamaha Surround reciever in my Garage with 2 speakers on one channel and a 3rd Speaker on the 2nd channel.I would Hang on the outside of the Garage pointed towards my pool area. With the Surround Amp I could run the 3rd Speaker on the second channel bridged with the negative into the left side and the positive into the right side of the Second channel.
What should I do with the 3rd Speaker now.
Can I just Run the speaker into the left or right side of channel B or Can I Bridge Channel B like I was before?
I dont think that I can bridge because if Im correct by the Ohm ratings there is only 1 Amp inside this reciever.
By the way the 3rd Speaker is a little KLH 8 Ohm.
Thanks for any help.

Smiles....another happy customer. Let me recommend you recap the entire 1050/1250. geez its an unbelievable difference, i didn't use blackgates in the preamp just panasonic FC's and it really tightens everything up, bass most noticeably.

capacitors, by specific manufactuers...

blackgate = really good, rather expensive, smaller production runs for limited customer base , specifically made for audio caps???

Panasonic FC = really good, industrial line of caps. More expensive than some of the other manufacturers, but in this case you get what you pay for... made in large production runs.... same goes for Nichicon

recommended for audio product lines in our experience are :
Panasonic FC and FM
and
Nichicon PW and HE (now are called UPW and UHE)

I had the same problem with my 1250's regulator board, although the main amp was basically OK. After fixing the regulator, and a full recap and alignment, it sounds fantastic :music:

www.mcmelectronics.com carries a lot of the original transistors, at least for the regulator board. I had to replace a few of them in mine, and they had the ones I needed. Good prices, too :thmbsp:

The new onsemi output replacemnts we (i) specify are better than the originals, and we can be assured of a very tight match. The fairchilds from mouser I specify are hard to beat on price as well... and power supplies are some of the most forgiving areas for replacements.

Thank you Stevesmullin

for stating the dimensions of the box your SX-1050 came in. I'm ready to ship mine to be repaired. B/T/W, what are the dimensions of the inner box?

Im not sure as I just packaged up a SX-780 in it and shipped it out.If I cant find a inner box the right size I will just make one up with large pieces of cardboard.
I will start by wrapping the reciever with 2 layers of bubble wrap then I will try to get that boxed up nice and tight making sure that the corners have planty of Cardboard protection.
Then I will line the Larger baox with Packing foam(like egg crate style) or what I ever I have.
Peanuts dont work the best in my opinion unless you get them packaged really tight because you Amp can slide around to the bottom while all the peanuts are on top.
And dont forget to put your shipping label on the Top of the box that way they have to keep it up right to scan it as it goes down the belt and gets loaded in the truck.
And for the final test you should be able to shake the Package and nothing should move at all, because if it moves it is a 50lbs hammer sliding around trying to get out.
If you get them packaged nice and tight the package will actually bounce when you drop it from 10 inches or so.Trust me they get dropped from higher than that.
I work for Fed Ex and even though we are better than most things still can get damaged if you dont double box.
Hope that helps.
