Geeze, what do they think this-California real estate. That's not "creeping" up more like a leap. Someone must've had an itchy finger or extra Christmas money. Personally, I find that a steep price and I just acquired one. I'm guessing things will settle back down-though not to previous levels.
 
If I could find one at a thrift for $19.95, then I don't mind the price "creeping or leaping"

But, based on my thrift travels today, my only hope for financial gain is if black plastic Fisher "Studio Standard" becomes the next hot collectable.
 
One owner units do bring more money, and the dust on the transformer and caps that you can see in the pic, might mean it's never been opened and messed with.
 
we are doing our job too well here at AK informing the plebes and wannabees of the joys of vintage sound it maybe a backlash against BPC I don't know but my pleasant obssesion of collecting and playing yamaha hi-fi in every room in my house and office spaces and turning on my friends is starting to get outof hand price wise
 
My point exactly. Been here since May '05. Missed a 1250 for $150-didn't phone real early in the morn. Miffed, even though I wasn't really looking as I knew it was a good buy. Then a couple months later, during Thanksgiving, found one at GW for far less. Like diamonds there are a lot more around than people realise-just marketing.
 
I am getting one for $150 in the next couple weeks. In good condition from a very nice person who also works on them. I cant wait to get mine!
 
It's nice to see the SX-1250 getting the respect it deserves in the marketplace. Although it's the better Receiver, the SX-1280 has broken the $1,000.00 barrier, no doubt because of the enduring fascination with Power Meters.

But, my advice is simple: get your SX-1250 while you can!!! You won't regret it and may decide to end your vintage audio quest right there.
 
The SX-1280 is better looking, a tad better specs, but build quality is a bit less than the SX-1250, and has the impossible to get plastic outputs. I got my 1250 before I got my 1280.

Also has the unobtanium FM IC chip. More of a concern than the outputs, which could be subbed with a little ingenuity.
 
I dont understand why people pay so much for a old junk pioneer receiver, there are so nice Bose systems around which are nice small and sound sooo gooood :music:
 
Guess I got lucky

Got my SX-1250 about 4 wks. ago for $535 and in near perfect shape! My next personalized license plate in Feburary is going to bear that (SX-1250) I love mine that much!......roadie1
 
SX-1050 vs 1250

Personally I prefer the SX-1050 to the 1250. SX-850 #1/ SX-1050 #2 / SX-1250 #3 in that order. My most favorite receivers of all times are those three.

The 1250 is just too big and way too heavy for me and for all intents and purposes the 1050 will do everything the 1250 will and costs less to boot. Not a put down I already love the 1250. I have owned several including one I bought new and kept for twenty years.

What can you say bad about the SX-850 Mini-Me to the 1250.

Actually if I were to buy one today I think I would go find a mint SX-950 at 85wpc it is a giant killer for 1/4th the price. Looks almost identical from the front. . . Either a 950 or a mint 980 with power meters would be nice too.

Truth is I can't afford the 1250 any more. I wouldn't want to take anything away from the 1250 as it should have been selling at Marantz prices a long time ago.

I'll second what vintagstereo said. For the most part, my vintage audio quest really came to an end when I got my SX-1250. They're that good. Also true what Gyusher said too. They are heavy, but when you pick one up, you know you've really got something special.
 
There are 4 or 5 on Ebay right now along with a couple of 1980's I think the 1250's are in the 400.oo to 600.oo range right now with the 1280 bringing a tick more, one sold last week for almost 750.oo
I have my 1010 and if the right deal comes slong I want a 1250 or?????? I might trade the 1250 for some Klipsh speakers that Rastafish has??? They are sweeeet. Iv'e seen some threads here that say this site is driving up the prices but I just think it's everything from the day that us older baby boomers had or wanted to have.
 
So there is much more on the market in the US than in Germany.I maybe see every 4 weeks a SX-1250, last one was this, but it was not sold for about $600.. HPM 100's are even much more rare over here, so hard times for collectors :tears:
