Huge SX 1250 Receiver, powers up but can't get sound.excellent physical condition all lights and meters work, it is probably something minor. I have a standing offer for $200 on it so please stop writing with chumpy little offers, with a little repair it will be worth what you know it will be worth.

I paid about $200, 3 years ago for my non-working 1250. Repaired the power supply and she still sounds great!

taking it to a shop it will cost some where around 200 to fix it maybe 250 just a ballpark figure.. so if its cosmetics are a 8 or higher i say yes its worth it

If I were you, I would have either taken the chance and upped the offer (he might have sold it for $250) or at least waited before posting here. Many may feel it is not worth $200, BUT he said: Huge SX 1250 Receiver, powers up but can't get sound. excellent physical condition all lights and meters work, it is probably something minor. Sounds to me like it is definitely repairable. If you are lucky, it will be a minor, easy repair. If not, then at least it is still repairable. Even if it worked as-is, there is no guarantee that it will not die a week after you get it, and any gear that age should be gone over/restored anyway.

Perhaps because this model seems rarer here in Hong Kong, I value it more highly, but that seems definitely worth $200 to me. I paid that much for mine, in similar state (but cosmetically needed to have the heat-sinks re-done). I know a guy who is asking $500 for a Sony STR-V7, and while I think he is definitely over-pricing it (I paid perhaps fifty for my STR-V6), it is a bit inferior to the SX-1250, so even discounting it by half or 2/3, it still makes that SX-1250 seem reasonable.

Of course, how much do you want this? Do you already have one? Are you optimistic of finding a better deal on one? How impatient are you? Are you planning to keep it for yourself long-term, or flip it for a quick profit? These things may affect your decision, too. If it were me, I'd check it out cosmetically, and if it is really nice, consider upping the offer to $250. But as I said, I may value it more highly than someone in the US would, as this model only rarely appears locally here in Hong Kong.

Maybe more folks are reading the/my fixit threads and getting bolder in pricing... sorta like the folks who want to see price reductions on a FSBO house that won't include an agent's commission...

If you do the work yourself, it might not be a financial disaster.

But if he blew the transformer or the high current rectifiers, you'll hate yourself...

I've got about 700 into mine. Worked when I bought it for about 2 months, then the main caps went, and only Echowars knows what else. Even if it is something simple, plan on a rebuild - soon.

BTW, Mine is sweet. Well worth it.

Next clue...

Here's a better picture....

Reason it wouldn't work. :D I had to pluck 2 jumpers off my Concept 3.5 to get my SX-1250 to work. Wonder if the owner is oblivious of it.

Good question. That is the first thing I look for and see this all the time.

You have to wonder though if they knew it didn't work with the jumpers in and took pictures with the jumpers out just to say there is "no sound". Might be doing this to pull the wool over someones eyes or maybe not. I'm sure its been done before.

I'm sure with local pickup it would be worth the $200 in parts alone if it didn't work and is in nice shape.

I bought a cheap KR-11000GX that "didn't work" for a power switch I needed. I noticed it was missing the jumpers too and pluged them in when I got it. Voala!! Instant sound.

OK, Allan, admit it.... they weren't exactly *missing*... where were they again?

Nice score, bud!
