SX 1250 parts.

I recently bought a SX1250. It was shipped to me through UPS, they beat the crap out of it. Broken glass, bent and scratched face plate, 50 hz bass knob smashed and shaft broke off. A few other shafts were bent to, but I was able to straighten them. Other than everything seems to work and work well. These things are tough! I want to get it looking good again, but I'm having trouble finding most of those parts. I'm hoping you guys can help. I found new glass on ebay, but no faceplate 50hz potentiometer or knob.

Those parts are extremely hard to find, because the Pioneer SX-1250 is very rare and valuable, so they don't get cut up much. When they do get cut up, it's usually because of an event like you experienced, where a poorly-packed receiver was damaged in shipping. Typically that involves the faceplate getting damaged, and also the faceplate doesn't cross over to any other models (obviously) so they are going to be MUCH harder to find than most of the other parts. I would imagine that demand is very high for an SX-1250 faceplate. There has literally been ONE sold on eBay in the last year. One faceplate. One.

The knob shouldn't be that hard, and the pot will cost you but may turn up. No discussion money on this forum but those parts are probably not going to be easily or quickly found. I would return it if you can, but I'm guessing that option is not available.

Be patient, another 1250 will suffer the same fate but it will take it in the rear. New owner will want to part it out, that's when your faceplate will arrive. Put your unit on the shelf and move on to the next project and be very vigilant for that face plate. Search Craigslist also as parts show up there on occasion. The glass is easy, search the forum i think someone has the dimensions already as many here have had broken glass. I had a Toshiba SA-7150 damaged in shipping and the rear panel was bashed in bad, found a guy that was parting out another damaged 7150 got a rear panel with all the connections plus a power supply board & bottom cover for $40. The Toshiba is far more rare than the 1250 and i only had to wait 8 months .Don't give up too soon on her!

Don't go to far in to repairs would be my suggestion. Not until a resolution to the damage with the seller is finalized. Would hate to be deciding on settling for less then a fair outcome because of outlay after the fact.

Thanks for reply. I really the like receiver, everything seems to work fine. I'll see what the seller comes up, they said they had it insured. I think I can straighten it out, but it won't be perfect. I figured if anyone would have parts, it would be the people on here.

It doesn’t matter if they had it insured. The seller is legally responsible for either taking it back for a refund or for giving you some sort of compensation. Replacing the damaged parts and repairing it will cost you at least $500 or $600. I would ask for $1000 given the severity of the damage.

on a more positive note there have been threads on fixing broken shafts by splicing the old broken one so if it was in the box save it. ebay for the faceplate i guess. but as the others have stated i wouldnt do anything until any claim is settled. i wouldnt feel bad about asking a refund either or at least a generous discount as packing the thing was the sellers responsibility and his lack of due caution and care are his responsibility to compensate. ive been shafted myself in the same way as yourself. dont wait start an ebay claim now if you bought it there, if not you are going to need lots of luck with ups as they will just say it wasnt packed right and too bad take it up with he seller.

It IS a matter of packing, hands down...

I have lost count of the number of SX-1980's I have shipped all over the WORLD successfully - UNDAMAGED. Through UPS.

I have always packed "for the shipping gorilla" (remember the luggage commercial?) and so far no forklift forks have been driven into a box.

Thank you for all of your replies. I have passed a lot of this information on to the seller. She has made a claim with insurance company, but like many of you have said, it will probably be denied. The seller seems nice and wants to make things right on my end. I feel like I purchased it at decent price $1700, considering what these go for. She usually sales plates and dolls on eBay. A few years ago, her brother gave her the receiver and she decided that she didn't need it anymore, so she sold it on eBay like she does her other stuff. She thought that she had wrapped and packaged it well enough to make the trip. I believe that she just didn't take into account the size and weight of this thing and brutality of UPS and their package handling. She wants me to give her a total for the repair and she will send me the money through PayPal. The glass ($40 on eBay), the knob ($25 on eBay) seems easy to get, the 50hz bass potentiometer (have not found $80 - $100??), the faceplate (don't know if or when available $150-$200??). Not really sure what to tell her, due to the unknowns. I don't want to take advantage of her, I just want to be able to repair it. I may able to straighten the face plate, yeah it will have some nicks and scares, but it doesn't look to bad after I cleaned it up. Any help with getting these parts would be appreciated.

the problem you have is the AVAILABILITY of the parts you need. you could wait YEARS for a 1250 faceplate to show on ebay the same goes for the control. how do you assign a $$$ value for a claim for a part you need that cant be bought as none are available ??? i looked for years for a qx949 volume control on ebay. it seems the more valuable sets dont get parted off as often and as they were not cheap when new how many were sold? of course me running my mouth will make the faceplate show up with control today on fleabay
