Hey peeps, gotta question for ya's.
One of the 1250's I have has this voltage selector on the back and according to the person I bought it from the unit is supposed to work. I brought this unit up with a variac etc and there is NO LIFE. DOA. So my question is before I open this puppy up take a look at this selector pic. I'm wondering :scratch2: if there is a piece missing, the center of it has nothing in it.

Thanks

Lol! Yes, it is missing the fuse and threaded fuse cap.

It's gonna suck to find a replacement for that cap.

Thanks Glenn I figured it would'nt be that easy. I found the service manuals a little while ago and that is the Model "S" SX1250 .... It's needs a 12amp fuse in there.

Now to find a fuse cap ... hmmmmmm.... :scratch2:

One solution is to hardwire a fuse INSIDE across the terminals of the fuse holder with the missing cap. Use an inline fuse holder -- available from Digi-Key or Mouser. After this you should insulate the exposed metal in the original fuse socket.

It just may be.. I bought it anyway. Less than $10 what the heck :dunno:
I seen one on the Canada Ebay $4.99 & for $10 shipping charge. I believe they use the same holder as in the sx1250. Glenn seems to think so too.
Thanks

I knew I should have opened this one up first... arrrrrrrrrgh!

Well .. I got the one from Ebay, it was supposed to be from a SX1080. It does not work in the 1250. It's too short.

So I opened it up today and was going to jumper the fuse holder with a fuse and jumpers, then I spotted all the connectors removed from the power supply board..:scratch2: so further checking revealed leaking caps and some kludge work to remove the heat sinks I guess to check the outputs. The power supply board smelled a little burt too. Well this is another project on the list. DAMN :gigglemad

The only fuse cap that will work is one from a multivoltage model. Yes, the others will be too short.

Looks like that's the reason the fuse cap & fuse were removed. To protect the new owner from smoke inhalation.

The US model of the 1250 does not have an externally accessable fuse...the mains fuse is in a clip holder underneath the unit.

You can take Fred's advice, or mount a clip holder to the underneath chassis like the stock 1250 and run wires to the multivoltage socket. You can also take your eBay bought fuse cap and glue it in place to cover the hole on the factory fuseholder.

I tore the house apart, thinking I had a fuse holder that would fit. I got nada, and I suspect that you may be looking for a long time if you insist on keeping it stock.

Yep, I'm digging around for some fuse clips or a holder and I'll just tack the one I bought in , just in case (right) I find one. Thanks for the efforts peeps :thmbsp: , onward and awayyyyyyyyyyyyyy.......

I have one of those fuses and multi-voltage fuse-holders, in great shape. Unfortunately, it is doing active duty in the back of my SX-1250, and I don't have another to spare for you. Sorry. :sigh:

But if it really is the same as the AKR-131 that is in all the models on that list, it shouldn't be TOO hard to find a replacement. In the meantime, you can do a work-around with a conventional fuse holder inside the case, as others have suggested.

Just remember to be careful and fix all the other obvious problems (such as loose transformer wires) as far as you can, before adding in that fuse and attempting to power her up!

Good luck, and congratulations on owning one of the greatest of receivers (well, once it is working! :D ).
