SX-1280...and the woman of the year award goes to...

Much admiration, sir. You wife must be a wonderful person, and her gift speaks highly about what kind of person you are too.

You sure have a keeper of a wife. Play her some of her favorites

Thanks, goat67! I will absolutely do that. (She loves Frank, and I might have an album or two... ;) )

Hope you got her something better then a robe for Christmas! Something that sparkles in the light when worn is always a good choice.

Enjoy!

Barney

Thanks, Barney! Fortunately, this year, I did go the shiny route. I don't think it quite measures up to what she did for me, but...that's what the other 364 days are for. :)

Two years later.....
This made me smile ear to ear. What a wonderful wife & gift. (I also have a wife that supports my audio hobby)
Now how about an update on the status of how it sounds now that it's been recapped?

Thanks, RX, I still have that smile every single day. It's great that wives can understand our passion. They may shake their heads in wonder from time to time, but they know it's important to us.

My 1280 has been redone, all caps, including the big cans, and transistors too. I have even replaced the dinged up volume knob and a few of the smaller knobs.

Since the recap, as much as I would like to say "wow, what a difference"...I can't. Don't get me wrong, this receiver is a major step up from my 850, and the first time (pre-recap) I turned it on I was struck by how much oomph it had, especially at lower volumes. And it still makes me grin. I am satisfied that, at the very least, I have done what I can to ensure longevity.

In short, I still love it!

Thanks again!

Well I have not seen this thread but am glad to see it first thing this morn. She is a gem! I welled up reading your first post!

Zeke, thanks, you are right, she is a gem indeed. And I admit I got choked up on that day myself.

Hello, that's great! Do still have the link for the service manual by chance, or are you still out there or too busy with the 1280? I have rebuilt umpteen SX-1250's and down but this is my first 1280! Looks aeasier than 1250 in some respects. Cheers!

Had a similar experience a few years ago, my wife was at a Ronald McDonald house sale and I get a call that she has a mint SX-1250 in her hands and they want $350 for it. Do I want it? You better believe I said yes. Listening to it as we speak. It has since been completely recapped and the stabilizer board rebuilt. It's a keeper!

That’s awesome, Speakerbox, in more ways than one! I’d say she was in tune with your audio love. (Oh man, that’s a groaner!)

I’m glad you’re still enjoying your 1250, as I am with my 1280!
