SX-1280 or SX-1980 That is the question

I am debating, SX-1280 or SX-1980 which one do Want? Is the additional watts worth the money? Does the SX-1980 really sound mush better?
I have read some posts on this site (THANK YOU ALL) that said the 1980 di not sound that much better, some say no way! the SX-1980 sound allot better. I need to find out from the experts.

For your money you are probably better off with a SX-1250. I'd take a Spec system any day over a 1980 since they cost about the same. You should have heard retros spec system at the fest.

I sold my SPEC-System and kept my SX-1980 :yes:


SX-1250 was Top of the line
SX-1980 was Top of the line
SX-1280 was second-top of the line :nono:

Thanks for the input. I am still not able to deside.Hey SIAMAC, CAN you give me more reasons why you have the 1050 abouve the 1280. And is there really a big sound diffrence between the three recievers you stated.

The output transistors for the 1250 are easily available but for the 980,1080, 1280, 1980 they are not. EW has a work around for this problem.

My list would go
Spec-1 & 4
SA-9900
SX-1250

You only need the watts of the spec-2 or SX-1980 if you are running something like AR9 speakers
 
i also recommend the SX-1250. parts are available. the units are available on ebay. they had better shielding on them. the power supply was overbuilt. the SX-1250 has a bigger power supply than the SX-1280.
 
Another vote for the sx-1250..For some reason the 1280 still goes for more (people love meters too much) even though it wasn't as well built as the 1250. Now, considering that you can pick up a 1250 for around $400-$600 and 1980's go for $1200-$2000, the 1250 is a steal. If you absolutely need the extra wattage, then go for the 1980, but very few speakers aren't satisfied with the 165WPC the 1250 produces.

Speaking of speakers, what are you planning on driving with said receiver?:scratch2:
 
YEs i know my log on name is stupid, My nephew made me do it. Inside joke deal. But thanks for the info. Look like i am going to look for a 1050. What speakers are a good match for that reciever. I like my bass,I hate real bright sound. ANY IDEAS>
 
all i need in my life is my sx-1980 with a good turntable, tapedeck and reel to reel, with good cables and a pair of b&w speakers. the sx-1280 would be a very good second choise but there can only be one the biggest and the most insane.
by the way nice picture siamac ;) so that was your stuff on ebay ? inclusief the ma-25 ?
 
I don´t care anymore, if somebody says SX-1250 is better than SX-1980, because I have both :D

But for me, still SX-1980 is the King :yes:

CT-F1000, RT-2022, and you have it all :yes:
what turntable do you concider as the best one ? pl-570,707 or 1000 ?
