SX-1280 Question

I was reading somewhere that the SX-1280 was intended to be a TOTL unit but was replaced as the TOTL by the SX-1980. However, was the SX-1280 introduced before the SX-1980 such that it was the TOTL for a brief period of time.....THUS QUALIFYING IT AS A LEGITIMATE TOTL UNIT???

I dont know which came first the 1280 or 1980 but I still consider a 1050/1080 to be close enough, besides any Pioneer receiver that weighs over 60 pounds has to be TOTL. . .

While technicaly one could state that each manufacture had only one TOTL in any given year, I think we have discussed several times in the past that next one or two models down are probably every bit as good giving up just a few watts.

Recall only a -3DB reduction would be half the power in watts. The real bang for the buck is waiting in the shadow of the 'true' TOTL of any given year and I really think the 125 WPC is the sweet spot in receiver power.

I would hate to think where I will ever find replacement output transistors for my SX-1980 if the need ever comes, (triple darlington custom packages). Most 125 WPC used more normal TO-3 devices that can most likey crossed to some more availble transistors.
