SX 1980 Reed Relay Replacement - APC Board

MarSanZ

Simple Pleasures...
Hi All,

The reed relay (part #asr-045, page 62/63 in the SM) on my APC board is not functioning properly. It's picking up stations but not as good as it should, and it's making alignment quite difficult. When bypassing this relay the tuning is picture perfect. Is there an equivalent relay replacement available or an effective counter measure? Does anyone one know if it's harmful to bypass the relay?

Thanks.

I would replace it. Service manual should give you a part number and or what the relay is (DPST 24v etc) and wire you in an available sub using the schematic as a reference. Chances are you wont get the original. I get them from Digikey.

Are you SURE the relay isn't being told to do something wrong??? The coil has to be energized to close the contacts...

As long as the contacts are within resistance spec, I'd look elsewhere - otherwise- yes - replace it

It IS driven by circuits that include the touch sensor nearby (electronically).

Like attacking the symptom, not the disease.

I contacted Digikey and they did not have a replacement, hopefully Markthefixer is right and another source is telling the relay to do something it's not supposed to do. If not, I need to find a work around.

Mark,

I will look into this, do you know of any suitable replacement for the reed relay? And can the relay be bypassed safely?
