SX-1980 sensor gain switch ?

I have noticed that some SX-1980's have the sensor gain switch on the back for the quartz lock and others dont and from doing a search here it appears that the later models had this, is one more desirable with it or does it make any difference?

From what I read, later model is more desirable since alot of bugs been fixed.

My SX-1980 was built in January of '78 according to the letters "YA" before the serial number. It has the sensor gain switch.
