Hello all,
A friend of mine is closing his shop in a few weeks and had three SX-3700s that were going to the dump. I grabbed them and managed to get one up and running, so he has it for sale. Yay. One of the other two was too far gone. It looked like it had been set outside for a while and the tuner assembly was a bunch of rust and the rest wasn't much better. I got all of the "good parts" that I could off of it and had to trash the rest. This brings me to the 3rd receiver...
It didn't look that bad and passed the dim bulb test but no sound and only a glimmer on the tuning fluoro display. Power level display is dark. I started poking around and noticed that the boards were really filthy. So, I started to brush away at the dirt and then it hit me...literally. This thing was used as a litter box for a cat. It's pull of dried cat pee! Did I mention that I am highly allergic to cats? No. I AM!
So...with rubber gloves, q-tips, distilled water and a lot of time I have made the unit safe enough for me to work on.
Now the question...Where to begin?
Unit stays in protection mode and has 6 volts DC on the outputs. The outputs and driver transistors have tested OK. Nothing looks burned. The power supply caps tested within specs and the transistors there all tested "OK." I am more of a hobbyist, so I'm not that skilled of a technician, but I can test and replace most things. This, however...I'll give it my best shot.
