sx-6 reception problem

Picked up a sx-6 at goodwill (missing a couple knobs, but who cares for ten bucks) and it sounds great but it has a strange reception problem....reception seems to quit for no apparent reason at times....fm antenna wire is well connected, any ideas????

...a lot of ides but probably even more possibilities for errors :thmbsp:

If you're in luck re-soldering the power-transistors in the Power-supply will fix the problem.
Since this is a synthesized receiver you have a PLL/Pre-scaler chip (probably M54922P). That chip could also be gone and that's bad. Not an easy part to get hold of.
Schematics for SX-6 is NOT in the AK database but the Circuit Descriptions manual is:
SX-4_5_6_7_ARP-047-0.pdf
Since it covers SX-4 ~ SX-7 i would assume you can go a long way looking in the SX-5 manuals that ARE in the database:
SX-5_ARP-009-0.pdf & SX-5L_ARP-010-0.pdf

Actually, if it's not the power-supply acting up you need it serviced by a pro.

I'm not a tech, so bear with me. I was trying to see if my loudness switch on my SX-6 had a problem. I experimented and found that adjusting that white plastic knob in the photos, affected my FM tuning (would cut totally off, until I readjusted it). I'm not sure what the adjustment switch is called, however, I just noticed that FM muting is printed on that part of the card. Maybe it could be that? Again, I'm no tech, just reporting what I discovered (deoxit on the loudness switch took care of my issue). Hope this helps and good luck. The SX-6 is a good little receiver, I posted a thread about it (SX-6 for $6.96) and you can see it in my sig.

That pot isn't in the SX-5 as far as I see from the SX-5 manual.
What it does? Don't know but as it's close to the PA3001A chip that's performing FM IF-amp and Quadrature Detection I should think it could very well be a Muting level setting. In that case DeoxIT is a good idea. Notice the precise setting before you start turning to be able to return it to original.

EDIT:
OK, I enlarged your pictures and the word 'FM Muting' is printed next to the trim-pot. Not a mystery any longer :thmbsp:
