SX-626/727/828 - Is Power Switch a Potential Issue ?

I really like the looks of the 626/727/828 and owners say how nice they sound, but search results show power/speaker selector switch problems and how new parts are no longer available. Is the switch issue reason enough to avoid this series ? Is this the same switch that is in my SX-750 ?

Would it be ok to use an inline switch with the receiver's power cord to power on/power off ?

When one of these Noble power switches begins to go bad the contacts get toasted and begin to make less and less of a good connection. Because of this the electrical connection is bad so it isn't sending the full power to the power supply. This can make the lights flicker. Another symptom of a bad switch contact is hearing a slight crackling or sizzle sound, which is the contacts arcing as they try to make a good connection.

If buying online, one never knows how it will perform until it's in your possession, just like with anything else. If the seller says he doesn't hear any crackling up near the power switch and says it functions good, then it probably does.

Nobody wants to put an inline switch on one of these receivers. Some folks will plug it into a power strip and use that to turn it on and off.

The best way to fix the problem is to put a triac or alternistor on the switch which will reduce the load to the power switch.
