SX-626 Recap Project

These 4 I'd change to FILM unless there are space considerations.

Got it.

647-UPW1E100MDD6 is out of stock. 10uf, 25v.

What is the best replacement? This is the list I pulled at mouser:

I have a military version of the SX-626, the SX-3000. It is one sweet sounding amp and especially nice sounding preamp. I've used it as a pre for several amps and receivers. Makes 'em sing! Good luck on your project. Well worth it my opinion.
tsd71 did a complete restore on my SX-980 and did an awesome job on it! Highly recommended!

Gave it ye olde deoxit treatment. All buttons, all connectors, front and back. All scratchiness on controls is gone, gone, gone, but still no sound out of the left channel in stereo mode.

When I press the mono button, however, suddenly sound comes out of both speakers. Magic!

Really though, this means that there is a faulty component in the left channel, somewhere upstream of the actual left power amp and the mono button? If the channel works in mono, that means that the left power amp IS functional, it just isn't getting the signal in stereo mode?

Where should I start looking for problems first?

Yargh.

I got everything recapped and retransistored this afternoon. First time doing this, so I went slow and took a couple hours to do it.

Fired it up and it turns right on. Now I have sound out of both channels, but the left is MUCH, MUCH quieter.

When working on the amp, I noticed that the power amp board is supposed to have 2SC497 transistors. Two of them have been swapped for 2SC485 transistors on one side of the amp. Could this be the source of my issues?

What should I do now?

Additional information; the equalizer amp seems to work fine in both channels.

If your getting sound in both channels in mono the amp is working. The issue is likely in the preamp section. 2SA726? Check voltages on the transistors.

I'll have to retest that. That problem was before the recap, and I replaced the 2SA726s already! I have a multimeter, and just need to be told where to test.

Look at the circuit diagram in the SM, there are voltages to test at different points.

You said you changed out transistors yet I only see 2-KSA992's and 6-KSC-1845's on your BOM list, where did you change out, which boards? Did you re-check to make sure the leg placements are correct?
Control Board AWG-008 2SA572 & 2SC1000
Head Amp W21-004 2SC870 &2SC879
These can be problematic, are these the one's you changed out with the 992 &1845's. If so, again, make sure the leg placement is accurate...believe me it happens

Power Amp suggestions...thanks Mark!

Yesssssss. I am excited about the 1010. When can I come pick it up? What turned out to be causing the irregular voltage?

So yeah, I had swapped out the pair of 2sa725's with sa992's in the AWG-008 control amp assembly and the 732s in the control and equalizer amps with 6 more ksc1845, as per MarkTheFixer.

My question regarding that list; why do the 2SC497s in different positions get different replacement transistors? Is it a matter of tolerances?

Hello everyone!

is it just me or is there an Error for the UKL1H3R3MDD1TA in the tuner awe-011???

I ordered this list, I am recapping and I do not have any 100uf capacitors like on my board but 2x UKL1H3R3MDD1TA.

below you can see that UKL1H3R3MDD1TA is, at the same time 3.3uf and 100uf.

Is the list ok or am I missing something?

thanks

good catch!! got past me HOW? many times....

my only defense, I didn't write that list,
nor have I come up with appropriate replacement transistors
replacement transistors are POSITION specific.
One location could be needing gain'
while another location (SAME Pioneer transistor part number) needs current drive
or heat dissipation - it depends ENTIRELY upon what that position is DOING.

I am trolling all the most recent of the old 626 threads, parts list in hand, to put together a mouser order. I, too, have this question: why do q3 and q4 2sc497 get replaced with a ksc2383, while q5 and q6 2sa497 get replaced by ksc2690 while q7 and q8 2sa497 get replaced by ksa1220? Also, why are there no replacements listed for q9-q12. I'm a noob, so sorry if the question is an obvious one.

Edit: I see the c7, c8 caps on the eq board, P/N: 667-ECQ-V1H474JLW is obsolete. Any recommendations on a suitable substitute? Thanks in advance.

Edit #2: This is the only film cap with a .47uf/50v value I could find on Mouser. Not an exact match, visually, and 12 weeks back-ordered. I wonder if it's an acceptable substitute?
