SX-727 Noise/Hiss

Hey all,

I scored a nice SX-727 for $15 at the local GW. I have been giving it a nice listen through headphones and though the knobs are scratchy I noticed that even with the volume all the way down I still get a background hiss (not a nasty hiss, just noise). Any idea what that is? I have read around and it could be some transistors.

Any info is appreciated!

Dirty controls will do that as well as many other things such as dc offset not set correctly, bad caps etc....get in there with some deoxit as well as set bias if you can on that unit.

I'll read up on DC Offset/Bias; thanks for that. I have DeoxIT at home but not at my current location, thus I'll need to pick that up!

I'm going to PNW Gathering 2011 so maybe some folks there can give some hands on input as well!

Cheers

Also try pulling the pre-out / main-in jumpers and see if the hissing goes away.

That will mean the power amp is quiet, and to blame the preamp.

Left channel, right channel or both?

Both channels gave off the slight hiss. I'll check the jumper tonight and get back to you.
