SX-737 lost 90% output after toggling tape monitor

Hey everyone! Long time reader, first time poster. Let me start by saying I have only a very little experience in audio repair. However, I’m typically a pretty capable and handy guy. I recently picked up a new to me pioneer tape deck and wanted to try it out so I hooked it up to my SX – 737 and engaged the tape monitor. I heard nothing. When I switch the input to anything else, all of the audio has been decreased by at least 90%. I had been listening to my record player couple of weeks ago and nothing was awry, but now every output has the same problem, and sometimes it gets worse when I engage the team monitor again . Any suggestions?

That’s really what I was hoping. It’s worked for me so well for more than 5 years with no problems. I appreciate the link too. Here’s hoping it’s easier to access than the pots on my old 434. Thanks!
 
Classic issue with old equipment where that switch is never used. Fine until you activate it, and then it won't make contact again. DeOxit is your friend here.
 
Pull the bottom and top panels off. Do EVERY Flip SWITCH, POT and Rotary Switch on it. Get the Owners manual and read up on the recording source rotary switch. It's unique in that only the 737 and 838 have it. Usually leave it in Source.

kwayde; Misdirection is good. Next time send him out for some Prop-Wash or a 1/2 mile of Snake wake. :rflmao:

NOTE: SIGNAL PATH GOES THRU EACH AND EVERY SWITCH on the 737!
