Sx-780 distortion

I have a sx-780 runs great except for lately I have noticed some distortion in the left channel. I played with the slector and tape monitor switches and that has no effect. It is not noticable at very low volumes, but when you turn the volume up it becomes apparent especially in the low frequencies. Before i tear it apart and get serious, does anyone have experience/sugestions with this type of problem.
thanks :scratch2:

You might want to try some spray cleaner on the volume knob.Im not sure what the brand name is but but i think radio shack has it.

check bias and dc offset first.
dont play it till you do.
might save a set of outputs.

The SX-780 has the infamous PA-3004 protection IC. This should prevent damage to your speakers if excessive DC appears in the output. Still, a good idea to check for DC offset.

An old SX-780 post has a scan image of the manual explaining this procedure. Very straightforward. A search should bring it up.

cleaning the vol pot won't get rid of your distortion, only eliminate a scratchy pot. If you have real distortion then do the bias/offset thing and see if it fixes.
