SX-828 Hitachi Capacitor fail

Of course I'd always replace electrolytic capacitors in the power supply of any SX-828 I'm working on, but these Hitachi brand caps may punctuate the idea even further. These were stock to the unit made known by the original type glue and unaltered joints. One leg of each of these capacitors shown below literally fell from the pad as they were desoldered. The brown stuff is glue, but there are obvious cracks in the seals which allowed the leads to let go.

That certainly underscores the need to refresh these items. It seems that Hitachi's "45-year warranty" may have been a little optimistic.

Yes, agreed.

I thought I'd point it out for those that still have OEM caps in their units. I've never seen original Elnas crack in this way as their seals seem more durable. The Elnas are the far more common brand found in the Pioneer power supplies. That doesn't mean I wouldn't swap them, I would, but if I saw the Hitahchis in place it would heighten my concern for getting them the hell out of there.
