Hi, I just brought home a beautiful SX-828 receiver but the trip home somehow caused the display panel to go dark. Pressing the dimmer button has no effect. The only lamp that is functioning is the "stereo" tuning indicator when in radio mode. I'm hoping the fix is not too complicated or costly. All advice appreciated!....Mike p.s. I'm not a fix-it guy except for the most basic of procedures.

There might be a fuse for the lamps. The Service manual will show if that's the case.
You probably should Deoxit all the switches, too. The dimmer switch may have gotten bumped enough in transit to cause the contacts to move to a corroded spot and the Deoxit treatment usually will cure that.

Look for 2 3A fuses near the transformer. According to the schematic, the wires to them from the transformer are white and violet. Check with a METER!!!!!!! AGC 3a Buss Fuses are available @ Home Depot in the electrical section. Better than the kludge at Ratshack.

fuses come out of circuit for check, sometimes lighting circuits can fool you with sneak current paths when checking for continuity.
