Was just gifted a Pioneer SX828 looks like it has some potential
I wanted to test functions before going crazy with restoration - stymied before I start
No Speaker plugs & have not seen this configuration around
Did some search's and I guess it's a nuance for Pioneer & Akai ...any easy mod ?
will just putting wire into slots allow play ?
I really don't want to spend $35 for plugs and then find out the unit is shot

As a temporary measure you can crimp on male ¼" spade lug connectors and whittle them down slightly until the width fits the speaker receptacle openings. I would hesitate to use the unit that way permanently sine the connection would not be all that positive and shake-proof.

It's fine to just shove the wire in the slots.

I've used them that way a lot.

FWIW there a cinch conecters available from places like Mouser for about $6 each that work.

Search for speaker plugs for those pioneer units, the x2x and find some solutions. One is an available Cinch connector another is a regular molded electrical plug with one prong rotated 90°.

Thanks .. I had some down time today so I started cleaning sx up
took off wood case and vacuumed some dust out , took off bottom plate to access pots
put some deoxit on them ... Thats as tech as I get lol

got all the knobs off and had fun shining things up

hope this thing works !!

Often when hooking up that series of Pioneer or Allied receiver I'll just tin the end of the speaker wire with solder and tap it a little with a hammer to flatten it out a bit, then it'll slide in and hold nicely. Don't want to make it too flat or it will be loose in the connector slot.

Thanks Matt , I was thinking of just that . Got a brand new soldering Iron just sitting around May as well
Put it to use
I'll give it a go tomorrow

You got it Mike! The positive connection goes to the smaller blade in the connector plug, the common or negative connection goes to the larger blade. Technically it doesn't really matter which is which as long as both speakers are hooked up to the receiver the same way to keep the speakers in phase.

A little solder , a few taps of the hammer - bingo all's well
This receiver has an excellent tuner ! Will have to check other functions this week
