SX-850 (Bypass Capacitors In Lieu of Original Resistors)

Going to replace the main filter caps today... have re-capped pretty much everything else.

Change the relay last night.

Order 18,000 uF screw type =
United Chemi-Con

Read here: http://marantzhallo-fi.blogspot.com/2016/03/pioneer-sx-850-receiver.html that I should use a stacked film .1uF capacitor (bypass) on each filter cap.

Mouser: ECW-FA2J104J & have these ready to go.

Then I read i should use a bypass based on = cap roughly filter cap size / 1000. So roughly 1.8 uF bypass cap.

Also read the the EW uses 2.2 stacked film religiously...

Now thinking I should just install the original bleed resistors for now? I stay confused.... is the .1uf films I have on handokay?

Thanks in advance.

first matter: Always use bleed resistors, that huge charge in the cap is a hazard.

COMPLETELY SEPARATE MATTER
second matter: the 0.1uf films will work fine.
going higher in capacitance will not hurt anything but your wallet. They MIGHT have some additional discernible positive effect.

I will post some pictures... will put the resistors and caps on the same ring terminals.

Thanks for helping the smaller brains.

Mark... thanks again for your help. See work below. Have changed all caps (minus the turner board) - Including control boards.

It is dialed in a ~00mv DC via VR1 & VR2. ~20mv DC on VR3 and VR4.

After about 10 minutes the relay drops (now new) and comes back... it cycles a few times, then becomes stable for awhile.

I need to get into the protection board transistors. Q6 and Q7.

Have KSC2690AYS (Q6) on hand and KSC1845 (Q7)... I think you recommend a different replacement for Q7. I need to check spec on 2SC945.

Anyways thanks for sharing you knowledge and insight over the years.

Changed as follows... KSC2690AYS (Q6) and KSC1815 (Q7) (in lieu of KSC1845).

Let me see if that fixes it for good.

Edit:
That did the trick = :bigok:
