SX-850, Should I added a grounded female port?

Hi,

First time posting on AK, has been a huge help in info as I am recapping and making some changes to my SX850.

Just finished replacing the spring speaker terminals with banana's and now i am at a crossroads trying to decide if I want to replace the two prong ac cord with a grounded three prong speaker female port.

Is there any advantages to this? I am a second owner and there is duct tape over a section of its original cable which is spurring me towards adding a modern ac power connection to it.

And if i were to do it, would i simply solder the correct polarities on to the port and ground it to a metal panel shared by the transformer?

Any advice would be appreciated!

No, don't ground it, there's no real advantage and a possible disadvantage of creating a ground loop. Is the cable actually frayed where the duct tape is? Depending on the type of damage, I'd either replace it with a new two prong power cord, or just put some heat shrink tubing over it.

In almost all cases, a ground is for safety only. If you're concerned about safety, get a GFCI-protected power strip, a GFCI outlet or GFCI breaker.
