SX-850 Woodpecker

SX-850 just started making this 'woodpecker' kind of noise that seems to be coming from around the mains/transformer area. It's not a buzzing or a clicking and it comes and goes. No obvious vibrations felt on the transformer or relay when it's happening. I recorded it but am not able to upload that type of fine. All other functions seem to be ok. I tried to see if there was already something posted about this, but didn't see anything. Any thoughts to check?

Is is a noise that comes oout on the speakers or is a sound that you hear near the unit itself (like a mechanical vibration)? Please clarify.
If it is cracling noise in the speakers it could be either dirty contacts/controls, dry solder joints, or a transistor that went noisy due to aging.

Thanks for giving it some thought. It is coming from the unit itself with nothing hooked up to it (no speakers, no inputs) It is intermittent and very brief when it happens so isolating it is a challenge but it really seems to be coming from (the area of) the main transformer. It is like a mechanical but I have yet to actually feel it- even from that transformer. Volume setting has no effect- it happens at any level (with or without speakers) And it does not come through as noise on the speakers. Crazy, huh?
