SX-939 / SX-9930 Dial Glass

Hi,

I have SX-9930 under restoration and dial glass is fully broken.
I would like to get your opinion to dial glass question.
Original dial glass has a slight tint. I got new replacement but it is clear glass.
I was thinking to use 5% darkening film on inner side of the glass.

Is it good plan or do you have any other ideas how to get the replacement glass close to the original look?

I have experimented a bit and I think you are on the right track. Paint and other liquid tints never come out even enough, so I wouldn't even bother with that. It could get a little expensive, but the ideal thing to do would be to find a window tinting company that will scan the glass and laser cut it to the exact dimensions. Outside of that a sheet of 5% film and a very sharp xacto blade could work if you have enough for a couple of tries.

i made mine for my 9930.personally i doubt you would ever notice the difference even with 2 sets side by side

I agree with John. Get a piece of clear cut, as the tint is insignificant enough not to matter.

I had one come in with cracked glass. Took it to my friend's glass shop and cut made a new one for me with tinted glass. It wasn't the exact same tint, but it was close, and it looked better than clear would have, IMO.
There is, or was, a seller on the 'bay who had replacement lettering decals for the FM Muting and Dimmer.
