SX-950 tuner issue

Picked up a nice 950 last month. It was in protection mode so I took it in to get repaired. It has been fixed and at home for a few days now. I tried to listen to the radio on it and come to find out the tuner is all out of whack. It will tune in just fine, except the pointer points to the wrong station. I have tried several times taking off the tuner drum and manually tuning it and then putting the drum back on. It works fine and tunes fine. When I try to tune in a station further up or down the scale, the needle wont align correctly with the new station. I will work at it some more, but does anyone here have any other suggestions on fixing this, or is this something I should leave for the pros? It is not really a big deal, but it just bugs me that the needle wont point to the correct station.

Is the pointer slipping on the cord? Take the top off and look see. If it is, re tension the clips on the pointer mount that is holding the cord, and put a drop or two of nail polish (ask wife, G.F., or mom for some 1st or risk a frying pan across the head) on the cord and mount to lock them together.

Also check that there is no interference of the dial pointer on the slide. If so clean the slide, and get rid of the interference.

Get the Service manual and make sure the cord is routed correctly, and none of the rollers are hanging up.

Probably needs to be aligned. Just moving the drum ends up throwing it off further. At end stops of the frontend the pointer should be physically aligned with the tickmarks on the scale. Further alignment should be done electrically.

First get the mechanical squared away. Then optimize the electrical, and if necessary readjust the pointer on the string slightly. Only glue the two together when everything's all set.
