sx950 Left Phono Channel No Sound

tramtrist

Slug Salter
Hey guys,
Topic about explains it all. My SX950 is working great EXCEPT for when I'm in Phono 1 or 2. No sound out of the left channel. Comes in crystal clear on the right. Is this a simple deox or should I be thinking of cracking her open?

Thanks ahead of time

Might it be your turntable? Can you swap RCA cables left / right and does the silent channel change sides? I would confirm the source before ripping things open :)

Yeah Mark, I swapped turntables to the same effect. Actually between the GT-2000 Yamaha and the SX950 I'd rather the 950 to be broken :D

You may need to rebuild the AWF-011 equalizer amplifier board.Bad cap or dead transistor.

Try and clean the RCA jacks for the phono input with Deoxit and a pipe cleaner, sometimes that works. Otherwise I've attached a pic of the equalizer/phono board with transistor replacements.

You can check the contacts through the inter-locking switches with your ohmmeter,
1) from RCA phono jacks thru switches to phono inputs
2) then from phono outputs to the flat amp inputs
all with power off.
Then if they are fine do as mentioned above.

Finally got around to it .. Replaced the phono stage transistors
2sa725 with KSA992
2sa1313 with KSC1845
respectively....

All good now :D
