SX950 still has static after being worked on.

I recently took my SX-950 to a local well respected A/V repair place. They went through the receiver and a few days later told me it was ready for pick up. I bring it home and it definitely sounds clearer but the right channel has static. The static is actually more pronounced when the volume it turned all the way down.

Is it rude to take it back and have them look back over it?

Is it possible they did the best they could and it might not be able to be repaired further? I understand with older equipment there's always a big risk. I'd still be a bit bummed after having spent a few $$$ only to find out it can't be further fixed. The 950 really has a great sound besides the static issues.

Absolutely take it back. You plunked down your hard earned cash, so they need to earn it.

It's possible that the ambient noise where it was repaired masked the static and they didn't hear it. It's happened to me; all the cooling fans in my test equipment covered up some low level static. I didn't hear it until I took the unit into my house to burn in.

At least call the place.

Where are you located?

If the sound reminds you of let’s say, bacon frying. My guess it is a transistor or diode going bad. Volume has no effect look in power not signal sources.

Pioneer used some transistors that become noisey. Make sure you tell the shop that you hear the noise with the volume all the way down. That narrows it down to the power amp.

So got that problem fixed but another one popped up. The phono 1 and phono 2 both have static even when nothing is plugged into the inputs. When I switch to the AUX or AM/FM the static is gone.

it just randomly started up and I don’t remember this happening before.

I have a very good tech and had a issue with the reception on my receiver , had him put in leds and while he had it he fixed several issues I forgot to tell him about ,well six months later the issue returned and was reluctant to say anything cause he had also repaired 2 turntable and another receiver and made them like new, well I decided to mention it ,and told him I know it’s old equipment and things happen and ask him to see what he could do knowing there would most likely be a charge ,he had it for a week and really went thru it fixed it and refused to take any money now it’s like new! Thanks dr audio

Besides recommending a full capacitor replacement on the board, these six transistors are known to get noisy. The 725's get replaced with KSA992'S, and the 1313's get replaced with KSC1845'S.
