System refresh - into a Brave New World!

It started with my wife wanting to re-winterize the living room windows, so that meant moving the couch out. When you dog-sit other's small dogs, that is a time of discovery! But the dusty tangle of wires also revealed made me resolve to go through the system and tidy it up. When I got my current amp, I had just left the old one in the rack, with all the cables still hooked up to it, just not at their other ends. To access all the wiring, I had to pull the rack out, after removing the Marantz turntable and SACD player from the top of it.

I decided to remove the Technics SP-25 turntable from the system, since my beloved Ortofon SPU had an accident at the hands of my wife. She still has no real idea what she did, but I have pretty much decided to sell the whole setup, so it's out of my signature now.

In its place, in a surrender to old age or modernity or both, I now have streaming, which was more of a struggle than I thought it would be. I bought an Arylic S-10 back in August, but couldn't get it going. It seemed to be an inscrutable black brick, but I gave it another try after the system was back together. This time there seemed to be more functionality to the 4stream app, and I was able to choose something in Pandora and start it, but still no music, even though songs seemed to be progressing. Weird. Wanting to listen last night, I replaced the fan-type heater in the family room at the other end of the house with a silent radiator type that I had bought. The reduction in background noise allowed me to hear something playing at a whisper, and I bent down and confirmed it was from the speakers. I had to turn the volume on the stereo way up at first, and it didn't sound all that great, but soon discovered that the S-10 remote worked, and got the volume set to about the same level as my other sources.

Hot damn!

Pandora is just what I wanted, so far - a totally hands-off silent DJ who plays stuff I like. An ON button for Music. I'm enjoying it.

The Brave New World looks pretty much like the old one, but tidier, for the time being at least. ;-)

Just a thought, you might want to see if there is a setup step to have streamer at 100% volume at all times. That way you just use your main volume knob.

You are either ten feet tall, or this bicycle is just a decorative piece.

I like your gear tho, especially those QUADs
